Healthcare IT and EHR Conferences and Events

We often get asked which Healthcare IT and EHR conferences are the best. I always reply that it depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. Plus, many people are interested to know which Health IT conferences we’ll be attending so they can meet us in person. We’ll keep updating this page with the latest Healthcare IT and EHR events and which ones we’ll be attending. Where we have discount codes to attend, we’ll list those as well. Hopefully, many people will find it useful. If you have other events you think we should list or you’d like us to attend your event, drop us a note on our contact us page.

If you’d like to purchase one of our popular video interview packages at one of the events, reach out to us for more info or download our ViVE and HIMSS offerings for all the details.

SXSW 2024
March 8-12, 2024 in Austin, TX
SXSW is great to find startups and innovators at their Health & MedTech track.  While SXSW is so much more than health tech, they’ve done a good job bringing a lot of interesting health tech companies together at this event.  It’s unfortunate that it overlaps with HIMSS though.

HIMSS24 Annual Conference
March 11-15, 2024 in Orlando, FL
By all accounts HIMSS23 was a big success.  While it will never be back to where it was when $36 billion of stimulus was flowing through the halls, I think we can expect HIMSS24 to be great as well.  Many will be watching to see what the HIMSS annual conference will be like under the new Informa ownership, but I don’t think we’ll see many changes to HIMSS in 2024.  Watch for Informa to make a bigger mark in 2025.

HIMSS Europe
May 29-31, 2024 in Rome, Italy
This will be our first time attending HIMSS Europe, so we’re not exactly sure what we’ll find.  However, with our love of Italy, it was impossible to not make the trip to Rome for this event.  It will be great to connect with the European Health IT community at the conference.

HFMA 2024 Annual Conference

CES 2020 – January 7-10, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV – We love attending the CES conference and the Digital Health Summit which is part of the event. New this year, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® is partnering with the American College of Cardiology Foundation to offer Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for the Disruptive Innovations in Health Care (DIH) conference track at CES. It gives us a good view into the consumer health world along with other innovations that might impact healthcare. We’ve debated doing some sort of health IT community walk around CES. So, let us know if you’ll be in town and would like to tour the mayhem that is CES as a health IT community.

Taste-of-HITMC Denver – January 22, 2020 in Denver, CO – At this healthcare marketing event, the HITMC (Healthcare and IT Marketing Community) community will come together to learn, collaborate and connect in a smaller and more focused environment. At Taste-of-HITMC Denver, attendees will do a deep dive into driving awareness and leads for their organization. Join the community where you’ll go away inspired. Plus, you’ll go home with stacks of practical ways to improve your efforts to drive awareness and generate leads. Check out the full announcement for details on this marketing event focused on driving awareness and generating leads.

[CANCELLED] HIMSS 2020 – March 9-13, 2020 in Orlando, FL – HIMSS is the mecca of healthcare IT conferences with 45k+ people. We’ll be doing a whole series of meetups, video interviews, and other coverage of the event again this year. We’ll even be recording our Healthcare IT Today podcast from the show floor. [Postponed] Health IT Marketing and PR Conference 2020 – May 12-14, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV – This is the premier event for Healthcare and IT marketing and PR professionals. Watch for details.

MGMA Annual Conference – October 13-16, 2019 in New Orleans, LA – MGMA is always a great event that brings together the top healthcare practice managers. In some ways it’s like HIMSS, but not quite as crazy. So, you have more time to meet and connect with vendors and attendees.

HLTH – October 27-30, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV – We were able to briefly attend part of HLTH in it’s first iteration. No doubt the organizers have created a lot of hype, energy, and a well executed conference. Let’s just be clear about what you’ll find at HLTH. It will have very little enterprise health IT and instead focuses on the ecosystem of startups, investors, acquirers, and other industry people. If that’s what you’re looking for, HLTH has spent a lot to bring those communities together in a well executed event.

CHIME Fall CIO Forum – November 3-6, 2019 in Phoenix, AZ – After taking last year off since they scheduled the Fall Forum over Halloween (again), I’m excited to head back to CHIME’s great event. It brings together a lot of great companies and CIOs in one place. I’m a little sad that the quality of the keynotes is down this year with a number of keynotes that we hear from all the time in health IT, but Dr. Swanson and Dr. Topol will still be interesting for many who haven’t heard them.

MedTech Impact on Wellness – December 13-15, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV – This educational symposium covers the broad spectrum of digital health solutions that are focused on enhancing patient care and outcomes.  It focuses on the healthcare technologies that improve wellness.

IFAH (International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare) – June 18-20, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV – This will be our first time attending the event, but it’s hard to resist checking out health IT conferences that come to Vegas.  Looks like they have some interesting speakers on the agenda from some great organizations.  They also tell me that top healthcare leaders and companies will be rewarded at the conference.

MEDITECH Physician and CIO Forum – October 17-18, 2018 in Boston – We’re excited to have a chance to mix and mingle with the many MEDITECH CIOs and physicians that will be attending their annual forum. There is nothing better for us than learning first hand from those who use EHR systems.

Connected Health Conference – October 17-19, 2018 in Boston – Having been to the mHealth Summit and the Connected Health Symposium for a number of years, we’re interested to attend the combined conference that’s now under HIMSS ownership. We’ll only catch the tail end of the event because of the overlap with the MEDITECH Physician and CIO Forum, but we’ll see how the event continues to evolve. There is the 2nd Annual Society for Participatory Medicine (#s4pm) conference that’s co-located with this event.

MGMA Annual Conference – September 30-October 3, 2018 in Boston, MA – MGMA is always a great event that brings together the top healthcare practice managers. In some ways it’s like HIMSS, but not quite as crazy. So, you have more time to meet and connect with vendors and attendees.

SHSMD 2018 – October 7-10, 2018 in Seattle, WA – For those not familiar with SHSMD (Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development), it’s an event run by the American Hospital Association (AHA) that brings hospital marketing professionals together. Healthcare Scene’s Spring 2018 Conference and Event Schedule

CES 2018 – January 9-12, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV – This has always been a great event to attend, but over the years it’s really gotten into healthcare a lot more. HIMSS 2018 – March 5-9, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV – It’s HIMSS. It’s our home. We’ll be holding the New Media Meetup at HIMSS again along with a number of other great events. Everyone is welcome to join us at these meetups and engage in some great discussions on the hottest healthcare IT topics out there.

Health IT Marketing and PR Conference 2018 – April 4-6, 2018 in New Orleans, LA – This is the premiere event for Healthcare IT marketing and PR professionals. We’re quite biased towards this event since we organize it, but it really is a unique event focused on the healthcare marketing and PR industry. In 2018 we’ve added an exhibit hall to the event and are planning to create an entire dedicated track for those interested in B2C healthcare marketing (ie. patient marketing). Use the promo code: HITrocks for a special Healthcare Scene discount to the event.

Health IT Expo – May 30 – June 1, 2018 in New Orleans, LA – This is the inaugural Health IT Expo and we’re proud to be the organizers of this special event. As you can see from this list, we attend a lot of conferences and events. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any conference that really brought hospital and health system IT professionals together in a truly collaborative environment. Creating a conference built on collaboration is a hard thing to do, but something we’ve proven from our experience creating the Health IT Marketing and PR Conference. We’re now creating Health IT Expo to be a haven of collaboration for IT professionals to collaborate with each other, with vendors, with government, etc. Join us for our inaugural event and be part of this unique experience! As a Healthcare Scene reader, use the promo code: hcscene and receive a special discount to the event.

John Lynn will be taking part in a panel for the HealthTech startup symposium on Friday morning. The conference has also offered readers a 25% discount on any tickets by using the promo code: HEALTHCARESCENE25.

SHSMD 2017 – September 24-27, 2017 in Orlando, FL – For those not familiar with SHSMD (Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development), it’s a great event run by AHA that brings hospital marketing professionals together in one place. Colin Hung will be there representing Healthcare Scene. It looks like we’ll be holding a tweetup on one of the evenings of the event together with dotHealth, so watch for tweets promoting that meetup.

AHIMA Convention 2017 – October 7-12, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA – I’m always excited to attend AHIMA. The HIM professionals provide a unique perspective on healthcare and are often forgotten. However, they have an untarnished perspective on what’s really happening in a healthcare organization that I appreciate. If HIM professionals interest you, then also be sure to check out our HIM Scene email newsletter.

MGMA Annual Conference – October 8-11, 2017 in Anaheim, CA – The fact that MGMA and AHIMA overlap and are only 1-2 hours apart is going to make for an interesting experience. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to navigate it, but we’ll be sure to hit both events. If you care about practice managers, then MGMA is your event. I also see it as kind of a smaller HIMSS with a lot of the same exhibitors, but in a much more calm environment.

Raintree Systems User Conference – October 14-19 in San Antonio, TX – John Lynn was honored to have been invited to be a keynote speaker at the 2017 Raintree Systems User conference. John will be speaking on reputation management at the event which is a great topic for a user conference since it’s top of mind for so many healthcare providers. Along with the keynote, we love attending user conferences to hear the boots on the ground experience from users.

CHIME Fall Forum – October 31-November 3, 2017 in San Antonio, TX – One of the highlights of our Fall conference season, the CHIME Fall Forum is a great venue that brings together a wide variety of healthcare CIOs in one place. I particularly like the focus groups at the CHIME Fall Forum.

MedTech Impact Expo & Conference – December 14-15 in Las Vegas, NV – MedTech Impact brings together clinicians, hospitals and ACO’s for a 2-day event focused on the latest in medical technology and improved patient care. Featuring breakout sessions, case studies, 20+ expert speakers, the Quad Impact Challenge live innovation battle (where John will be a judge), networking and dozens of sponsor displays. Healthcare Scene readers can attend at a discounted fee: use code HEALTHIT to save 15% on your registration.

Healthcare Scene’s Spring 2017 Conference and Event Schedule

CES 2017 – January 5-8, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV – This has always been a great event to attend, but over the years it’s really become a must attend event to see what’s happening in consumer digital health. Plus, the associated Digital Health Summit is full of really amazing content and speakers for those of us that care about more than iPhone cases.

HIMSS 2017 – February 19-23, 2017 in Orlando, FL – It’s HIMSS. It’s our home. We’ll be holding the New Media Meetup at HIMSS again along with a number of other great events. In fact, you can find all of the HIMSS 2017 meetups we’ll be participating in. Everyone is welcome to join us at these meetups and engage in some great discussions on the hottest healthcare IT topics out there.

Health IT Marketing and PR Conference 2017 – April 5-7, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV – This is the premiere event for Healthcare IT marketing and PR professionals. We’re quite biased towards this event since we organize it, but it really is a unique event focused on the healthcare marketing and PR industry. We’ve got something really special planned for 2017. Use the promo code: HITrocks for a special Healthcare Scene discount to the event.

Trends and Experiences in Healthcare IT and EHR – May 7-9, 2017 in Dubai, UAE – After 3 extremely successful workshops in Dubai, I’m heading back to teach another 2 day workshop on healthcare IT in May. It will also include a new pre-workshop course on EHR selection and implementation. We have 2 sponsorship slots available for healthcare IT and EHR companies interested in the middle east.

Healthcare Scene’s Fall 2016 Conference and Event Schedule

EHR Training Course – August 24-25, 2016 in Dubai, UAE – After 2 extremely successful workshops in Dubai last year, I’m heading back to teach another 2 day EHR workshop at the end of August. I’m excited to share my EHR knowledge with the Middle East Healthcare IT and EHR community. We’re offering a few limited sponsorship opportunities for the workshop if any companies are interested in getting exposure to the middle east healthcare IT market.

Qualcomm Life Connect – August 30-August 31, 2016 in San Diego, CA – It’s been amazing to watch the rise of Qualcomm in the healthcare IT space. They’ve made some big investments and so I thought it would be interesting to attend their event.

Connected Health Summit – August 30-September 1 in San Diego, CA – This even is organized by Parks Associates. I’ll admit that I’ve never been to the conference, but the agenda looked interesting and so I thought it worth my time to check out.

AHIMA Convention 2016 – October 15-19 in Baltimore, MD – I’ve always been impressed by this event. The HIM professionals that attend are extraordinary. It’s always fun to learn a lot from them. They have a really unique perspective on what’s happening in the industry. Plus, I get to spend time with Erin Head who writes HIM Scene. People like her illustrate why the future of HIM is in good hands.

Connected Health Symposium – October 20-21, 2016 in Boston, MA – I haven’t been to this event for a couple years, but I enjoyed it the first time I attended. I’m interested in how the event has evolved over the years and where it is today.

MGMA Annual Conference – October 30-November 2, 2016 in San Francisco, CA – Much like the AHIMA event, I really enjoy the perspective that practice managers bring to what’s happening in healthcare. They bring some great “in the trenches” views on their experience with healthcare IT and the changing business of medicine.

CHIME Fall Forum – November 1-4, 2016 in Phoenix, AZ – This will be the 25th anniversary for CHIME, so I’m expecting big things from this event. Plus, there’s no better place to meet with hospital CIOs than the CHIME Fall Forum. As a startup entrepreneur myself, I’m a little geeked out to hear Robert Herjavec talk at the event. Although, my favorite part of the event is sitting in on the focus groups. Nothing like raw discussion between hospital CIOs.

RSNA – November 27-December 2, 2016 in Chicago, IL – Last year was the first time I attended RSNA. I had a great time and so I think I’ll brave the post Thanksgiving cold in Chicago again. The intersection of health IT and radiology really fascinates me.

Digital Health Conference – December 6-7, 2016 in New York City, NY – I’ve been involved with this conference since it first started. Even spoke at it before. I was sad when they didn’t hold it last year, but I’m glad that it’s back in 2016. The event is really excellent because it brings together the New York healthcare community with innovations from around the world. I’m excited to see what’s new in New York and to learn more about the progress NYeC has made as well. Since we’re a partner of the event, you can use the promo code HCS to get a 15% discount off your registration.

Possible Late Additions: Healthcare Analytics Summit, Health Impact Midwest, NextGen UGM, Epic UGM, Cerner UGM, and the Connected Health Conference.

Healthcare Scene’s Spring 2016 Conference and Event Schedule

International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) – January 7-10, 2016 in Las Vegas – I always like to spend some time roaming the floor, connecting with smart people, and seeing what the next year of digital has in store for healthcare. I’ll be moderating a digital health panel on Thursday.

HCAA Executive Forum – February 9-11 in Las Vegas – This event is put on by the Health Care Administrators Association (HCCA). It will be my first time attending the event.

HIMSS – February 29-March 4 in Las Vegas – Multiple members of Healthcare Scene will be part of this event. Tuesday we’ll be hosting our New Media Meetup event at HIMSS. I’ll also be speaking at HIMSS if you’d like to attend my session on Marketing to Customers in an Uncertain Healthcare IT Marketplace.

National Council on Behavioral Health – March 7-9 in Las Vegas – This is my first time attending a behavioral health event and it was outstanding. Lots of tech discussion, but also a bunch of sessions that add perspective on the challenges mental health professionals face. The only problem is that it’s right after HIMSS this year which means I only have limited time to attend.

SXSW Interactive – March 14-16 in Austin – I’m actually barely going to be attending SXSW (They have a full SXSW Health section this year). I’ll be participating in the Dell Healthcare Think Tank Event (#DoMoreHIT) that’s happening at the same time as SXSW. It’s streamed live online, so you can join all of the event virtually.

Health IT Marketing and PR Conference – April 6-8, 2016 in Atlanta, GA – This is the premiere event for Healthcare IT marketing and PR professionals. We’re quite biased towards this event since we organize it, but it really is a unique event focused on the healthcare marketing and PR industry. Use the promo code: HITrocks for a special Healthcare Scene discount to the event.

WEDI Conference – May 23-26, 2016 in Salt Lake City, UT – I’d always heard good things about the WEDI conference and looking at the speaker list, it’s shaping up to be a great conference. It will be my first time attending, but I’m excited to learn at this event.

AHIP – June 15-17, 2016 in Las Vegas – This will be our first time attending AHIP, but as payers and providers become one in the same we think it’s really important for us to explore what’s happening at AHIP with all the payers.

EHR Training Course – August 24-25 in Dubai, UAE – After 2 extremely successful workshops in Dubai last year, I’m heading back to teach another 2 day EHR workshop at the end of August. I’m excited to share my EHR knowledge with the Middle East Healthcare IT and EHR community. We’re offering a few limited sponsorship opportunities for the workshop if any companies are interested in getting exposure to the middle east healthcare IT market.

Healthcare Scene’s Fall 2015 Conference and Event Schedule

HIM Summit – July 26-29 in Palm Beach, FL – I’m excited to be helping lead a roundtable discussion with Agency Ten22 at this event along with doing some video, tweets and my usual social media event coverage. This event is hosted by Healthport and should be a great place to learn, network and relax with the amazing HIM professionals out there.

EHR Training Course – August 31 – September 1 in Dubai, UAE – After an extremely successful EHR workshop in Dubai in May, I’m heading back to teach another 2 day EHR workshop at the end of August. I’m excited to share my EHR knowledge with the Middle East Healthcare IT and EHR community. We’re offering a few limited sponsorship opportunities for the workshop if any companies are interested in getting exposure to the middle east healthcare IT market.

CTIA Super Mobility Week – September 9-11 in Las Vegas – Served as a judge for the CTIA Startup Showcase judging the mHealth companies.

HBMA Fall Annual Conference – September 10-12 in Las Vegas – The HBMA annual conference is always a great event that has some of the most practical and useful sessions I’ve been to along with a great community of medical billing companies. Great content together with great people makes for a great event.

MGMA Annual Conference – October 11-14 in Nashville – Imagine the HIMSS exhibit hall without all the insanity. That’s what MGMA feels like for me. A lot of the same companies are at MGMA, but it’s not quite as crazy. MGMA also puts on some of the best sessions. If you want to find the attendees, they’ll be in the sessions and not the exhibit floor. We’ll be doing another social media meetup at MGMA which is always my favorite part. I’m also excited to hear Atul Gawande, MD who I’ve yet to hear in person.

Healthcare IT Transformation Assembly – October 25-27 in Miami, FL – This peer to peer event brings together some of the leading healthcare CIOs in one place to discuss the challenges they face. I’ll be facilitating a number of round table discussions at the event.

RSNA 2015 – November 29-December 4 in Chicago, IL – This is the premiere radiology conference. It will be our first time attending, so I’m excited to see what it’s like.

Healthcare Scene’s Spring 2015 Conference and Event Schedule

SXSW Interactive – March 15-16 in Austin – I’m actually barely going to be attending SXSW (They have a full SXSW Health section this year). I’ll be participating in the Dell Healthcare Think Tank Event (#DoMoreHIT) that’s happening during SXSW. It’s streamed live online, so you can join us virtually even if you don’t want to brave the craziness of SXSW.

HIMSS – April 12-16 in Chicago – Multiple members of Healthcare Scene will be part of this event. We’ll be co-hosting a social media and influencer meetup at HIMSS. Tuesday evening we’ll also be hosting the New Media Meetup as well.

Healthcare Scene’s Fall 2014 Conference Schedule

Black Hat – August 2-7 in Las Vegas – Definitely not a healthcare IT specific conference, but this is the hacker and IT security people’s event. Plus, they always have a few sessions about healthcare or medical devices. I’ll be interested to see what’s new in the world of IT security and how far behind we are in healthcare.

INSITES Build – September 22-23 in Fargo, ND – This will be my first time attending this event. I have heard good things about the event and I was asked to come and speak at the event, so I’m excited to learn more about INSITES. Plus, I needed to check off a visit to North Dakota on my bucket list.

AHIMA Convention 2014 – September 27-October 2 in San Diego – What’s better than an event in San Diego (Vegas of course)? I’ve been to AHIMA the past couple years and I’m looking forward to attending the event again this year.

Craneware Summit – October 14-16 in Las Vegas – This is the Craneware user conference. I’m excited to mix and mingle with the healthcare CFOs that are Craneware’s users. It’s always great to get some in the trenches perspective on what’s happening.

MGMA 2014 – October 26-29 in Las Vegas – I love that MGMA is in Las Vegas again. This overlaps with CHIME again this year, but I’ll be enjoying at least a couple days of MGMA before I leave for CHIME.

CHIME Fall CIO Forum – October 28-31 in San Antonio – I was first pointed to this event by Neil Versel. It’s a great event if you want to learn from hospital CIOs.

EMA Nation Users Conference 2014 – November 6-9 in Orlando – This is the Modernizing Medicine EHR user conference. I’m a huge fan of user conferences and so I’m looking forward to meeting the Modernizing Medicine users.

Digital Health Conference – November 17-18 in New York City – I think this is the 4th year I’ve worked with and attended the Digital Health Conference in NYC. I’ll be making the trek again this year and look forward to connecting with so many great people in the NYC healthcare community.
