What Good Can We Do?

I’ve often considered the value that the Healthcare Scene network of blogs and myself provide to the industry. Based on the numerous emails that I get and other interactions, I think overall I feel really good about the impact for good that Healthcare Scene and this blog has had on healthcare IT. I think many people and organizations have been helped by the resources that we share. Plus, I think in many cases we’ve opened up discussions around topics other people don’t seem to want to discuss.

While I love the value that we work to create for our readers every day, I’ve recently gotten a number of emails and messages suggesting that Healthcare Scene could do more and make even more of an impact for good.

I’ve been kicking this around in my head a little bit, but I thought it would be interesting to get readers thoughts on this. In what ways could the Healthcare Scene platform benefit the healthcare IT industry? What ways can we better benefit you as a reader? Are there areas where a blogging platform could do good?

A while back I wrote about the beauty of working in healthcare is that there’s the opportunity to literally save people’s lives. While this is often a tangential result of the work we do, there’s that real opportunity. Although, it was also pointed out that along with the opportunity to save a life, there’s the opportunity to damage someone’s life. Someone even suggested that those working in healthcare IT should have to take the hippocratic oath. While that goes a bit far, we’re all under that important responsibility.

I ask you then, how could we leverage the Healthcare Scene blog network and EMR and HIPAA for good? Where are some places that we can make a difference in healthcare it? I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments, by email or on our contact us page.

  • […] Over the years we’ve had a number of writers contribute amazing content to the site, but most of our regular writers contribute to another Healthcare Scene website like EMR and EHR. I’ve generally reserved EMR and HIPAA for the content that I write and so 1705 of the blog posts were written by me. Not too bad for a little over 8 years of writing. I think I’ve accomplished some good. […]

  • Thanks Gary. I’m familiar with your blog and have commented there before. I’m not actually a doctor, so I can’t help you with the physician champion thing. I will try and check our your blog more often. Thanks for the reminder about it.
