EMR Marketing

Written by: John

It seems to me like EMR marketing is really kicking into gear now that we have the meaningful use final rule. Makes sense with the intense competition that’s happening between the 300+ EMR vendors.

One EMR vendor recently emailed me about advertising on EMR and HIPAA. He summed it up really well when he said, “We are looking at actually doing some advertisement other than big publications that charge us 20K.” Honestly, it still amazes me how much money companies pour into the various trade magazines when they could advertise for an entire year on this site for a fraction of the cost.

On that note, I’d like to welcome 2 new advertisers to EMR and HIPAA:
Enterprise Software Deployment – I actually met the people behind Enterprise Software Deployment at a virtual conference for healthcare IT and loved my interaction with the company. They offer a full suite of services to support your EHR implementation. These types of services are going to be in high demand. Check out their list of EHR software they support.

MDCare EMR – A Preliminary ARRA IFR Stage 1 Certified EHR. They offer a full integrated EMR and PMS. Check out their list of EMR features here.

I also want to thank Intersystems, Practice Fusion and Ambir Scanners for recently renewing their advertisements on EMR and HIPAA. It’s always gratifying when advertisers continue to renew.

Thanks for reading EMR and HIPAA and for supporting the advertisers of this site as well. I’ve got a few more in the hopper, but they’re not quite final so I’ll talk about them later.

EMR and HIPAA Speaking Engagements and Ads

Written by: John

EMR Presentations
As many of you know, I’ve really enjoyed the chances I’ve had to go and speak to groups about Electronic Medical Records (EMR). I haven’t done it all that much since I had a full time job back then, but now that I’m working for myself I have a bit more time to do some EMR speaking engagements.

For those interested in bringing me out to speak to their organization, I’ve created an EMR and HIPAA Speaking page. I’ve included a short bio (first time I’ve posted that) on that page along with a sample EMR stimulus presentation that I did last year. If you’re interested, please send me a note on this contact page.

EMR Advertising
In other news, there has been quite a bit of interest in the top 2 ads on EMR and HIPAA. Both of those ads become available starting July 1. In order to fill those spots the most fair way possible, I’ve decided to open up the bidding for those top 2 ad spots. Basically, the ad spots will go to the most attractive bid. As before, current advertisers will be given priority if 2 bids are similar. If you’re interested in participating, let me know and I’ll keep you in the loop.

I also want to welcome a new advertiser to EMR and HIPAA:
MedicalVar.com – This website connects medical professionals to Value Added Resellers (VARs). The only way you can buy Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical version is through a VAR. So, MedicalVar.com is a service to help you locate a VAR for DNS Medical.

Thanks for renewing also goes out to long time advertiser EMR Consultant and MD-IT who advertises on EMR and HIPAA & EMR and EHR. Check out more details about advertising on EMR and HIPAA.

EMR Jobs
Finally, I don’t think that many realize that EMR and HIPAA has an EMR job board. Only costs $30 to post to it and it gets exposure on both of my EMR sites. For example, here’s a job that was just recently posted to it:
Healthcare Practice Manager, Program Manager with HIPAA / 5010

P.S. I’m leaving town next week for a scout trip where I won’t have internet access. If someone would like to guest post while I’m gone let me know. Otherwise, I’ll try to write ahead and schedule the posts to appear. I’d hate for people to go without their daily dose of EMR and HIPAA.

EMR and HIPAA Advertising

Written by: John

Last time I took a second to recognize the advertisers on EMR and HIPAA I was just starting my planning for HIMSS 10. Now, HIMSS 10 isn’t much more than a spec in the rear view mirror. It’s amazing how time flies. Well, at this point I’m even more grateful for the companies that support this website as advertisers since I’m now a full time entrepreneur. Luckily, I think that the advertisers are happy with their investment in this site as well.

On that note, here’s a quick look at some new companies that have started supporting EMR and HIPAA since my previous post.

Practice Fusion – I must admit that I was really happy when i got the email from the people at Practice Fusion saying they wanted to advertise on EMR and HIPAA. I’ve said previously, that I think they’re the closest company to a pure internet startup company that I’ve seen in the EMR world. As a nerd, internet startups fascinate me. Mostly, I was glad to see that a company that understands Web 2.0 finds value on advertising on my site.

My personal musings aside, Practice Fusion was the first company I found that offered a free EMR. I’ve often written lengthy posts about their Free EMR model and SaaS EMR in general. You’ll find few companies more passionate about SaaS EHR. They also offer an interesting “Live in Five” program which commits to having you signed up and charting in Practice Fusion in 5 minutes. Once I have 5 minutes of free time, I’m planning to take that challenge and see what happens.

Digi Recs – Digi Recs (officially Digital Records, Inc.) is the first document imaging company to join as an advertiser. They’re a relatively new entrant to healthcare document imaging, but have a long history of document imaging with Fortune 500 corporations, small/ medium/ large size healthcare practices, hospitals and government agencies.

Digi Recs is happy to work with those that are pre-EMR with ongoing scanning or post EMR implementation scanning all your old paper records. I did this in our clinic and I can’t imagine anyone who tries to scan the old paper charts by themselves. A scanning service like this is so smooth and frees up all that paper chart space. Digi Recs is also interested in working with EMR companies who want to offer these scanning services.

EMR Jobs Promotion – I also am running a short promotion this week for EMR jobs. This week they’re offering 50% off a 1 year subscription job post plan with the promo code SAVE50.

I also want to thank those advertisers that have recently renewed their advertisement on EMR and HIPAA: Sfax, Sequelmed, The Drug Company, and MxSecure.

As a side note, the ad in the 7th slot down in the sidebar will be available for new advertisers on 5/1/10. You can see all the details about advertising on EMR and HIPAA here.

I’m also interested in looking at other opportunities to present on the EMR stimulus, EMR Selection or EMR implementation similar to this presentation I did in Austin on the EMR stimulus. Drop me a note on my Contact Us page if you’re interested.

EMR and HIPAA Sponsor Updates

Written by: John

It’s been a little while since I thanked the companies that sponsor EMR and HIPAA. Please check out the various vendors that support the writing I do on this site. Plus, check the bottom of this post for some other methods of advertising an EMR, an IT company, and EMR consultants.

First up is a quick look at some of the new EMR and HIPAA sponsors:

  • Ambir – I’m really excited to have Ambir as a sponsor on EMR and HIPAA. They’re the first device company to appear on our site. Ambir is an industry leader in digital imaging. Those who have an EMR know how important finding the right scanner equipment is to your office. I know I’ve burned through a few scanners that couldn’t handle the load. Check out Ambir’s recently announced scanner product.
  • MD-IT – I first became familiar with MD-IT when I learned about a Medical Transcription Service Consortium for Sharing Patient Data. It’s initiatives like this that really make MD-IT an interesting company. I won’t be surprised at all if a transcription company like MD-IT really makes a dent in health information exchange.
  • Sfax – Secure electronic faxing. HIPAA audit trails. Store and find faxes. Save time and money. Electronic faxing is really an essential part of any EMR implementation. Plus, it can be implemented before even selecting an EMR.
  • TBD Consulting – A full-service consulting firm that specializes in employee performance improvement. In healthcare, they focus on Clinical Transformation and Healthcare Talent Management. They’re also doing some interesting things with Second Life and they’re also pretty avid bloggers.

I’m also always grateful for those sponsors who keep renewing with me. Medscribbler, InterSystems have both been sponsoring EMR and HIPAA for a while and it’s much appreciated.

I’m also working on some less expensive sponsorship options starting first with my EMR and EHR Vendors List for a premium listing on that page. I’ll be redesigning that page soon to accommodate it. Plus, I’ll be adding 2 new pages that will list IT Support Companies who specialize in EMR and also an EMR Consultants List. I expect it will be only $50-100 per Year to advertise on those pages. Please drop me a note if you’re interested in these new premium listings.

Otherwise, adverting on EMR and EHR has been going very well also. Plus, plans for HIMSS are starting to take shape. The first company to sponsor my coverage of HIMSS is on board and I’ve got 4 different companies interested in sponsoring a blogger/twitter meetup at HIMSS. So, if you’re going to HIMSS let me know in the comments and I’ll let you know when and where the meetup will take place.

Finally, the EMR job board has been doing Great! A job listing on the site goes for only $30 and it’s gotten 184 views already (or $0.16 per view). I haven’t seen any other healthcare IT or EMR job boards that do that well.

Ok, so much for a short post about my sponsors. I guess there’s just a lot going on. Plus, I haven’t even mentioned a future EMR selection e-Book and EMR conference I’m putting together.

EMR and HIPAA 2009

Written by: John

I knew that this year had been a really great year on EMR and HIPAA. However, I didn’t really realize how much we’d exploded until I started looking at the stats for the site. Thanks to the EMR stimulus (among other things), EMR and HIPAA saw an 800% increase in traffic in 2009 as compared to 2008. That amounts to the following stats for the year:
1.57+ million pageviews
900,00+ visits to EMR and HIPAA
Average Time on Site: 3 minutes and 17 seconds
Biggest Single Day: 8,679 pageviews

I’m most proud of how long people stay on the site to read what’s been written. However, I can’t really get my head around 1.5 million pageviews either. Isn’t technology amazing?

In 2009, I wrote 386 Articles on EMR and HIPAA. That’s a little over 1 post per day. I really didn’t think I posted that many. I guess they start to add up over time. However, even more exciting for me is that there have been over 2325 comments made on EMR and HIPAA. I love to see that much engagement and have loved so many of the conversations we’ve had. I’ve been educated and informed as much or more than I’ve helped you.

Google was by far my largest source of traffic with the following search terms being the most popular: EMR companies, EMR Stimulus, EMR vendors, “health it resource center” arra, ehr vendors. However, I’ve also seen a huge increase in traffic from my techguy and EHR and HIT twitter accounts. I’m amazed at how many people are discussing EMR on Twitter. It’s an amazing tool.

Of course, I also want to thank all of those companies that have sponsored EMR and HIPAA this year: Medscribbler, InterSystems, MxSecure, EMR Consultant, EHR Scope, Medical Voice Products, Plextra, MD-IT, Sfax, NextGen, My EMR Choice, EMR Jobs, and DigiDMS. Their sponsorship of EMR and HIPAA really does make a huge difference. It seems like it’s been mutually beneficial since almost all of the above advertisers have renewed their ad on EMR and HIPAA (and many of them multiple times). I have a feeling that 2010 will be an even bigger year for EMR advertising.

EMR and HIPAA has a lot of things in the works for 2010. I’ll follow up this post with a post talking about some of our plans for 2010. It’s going to be an exciting year.

New EMR Advertiser and 5 Advertiser Renewals

Written by: John

I’m really happy to welcome a new advertiser to EMR and HIPAA: Plextra EHR. They have an interesting offering for doctors to be beta testers of their EHR Lite product and get the EHR software for free. It’s pretty interesting to see how all the various EHR vendors are working to get their EHR software to market.

I’m also really happy to say that 5 other advertisers renewed their advertising on EMR and HIPAA: EHR Scope, EMR Consultant, MyEMRChoice, MxSecure, and Sequelmed. It makes me feel good when advertisers renew since that usually means they’re getting some real value from the advertising on this site. My hope is that it’s a win for everyone involved.

I’m finalizing a few more EMR and HIPAA advertisers right now and close to adding my first advertiser on my sister site EMR and EHR. I’m also working on a few other partnerships that I think will provide some value to readers. I’m also working on some e-books, a conference and today I was thinking a webinar might be useful. We’ll see how it evolves over time. It’s an exciting time in the EMR world.

I’m also got an invitation to be part of a “Meet the Bloggers” session at HIMSS 10 in Atlanta in March. I think that could be a lot of fun. So, if you’re planning on attending HIMSS, I look forward to seeing you there.

EMR and HIPAA Advertising Opportunities and New EMR Advertiser

Written by: John

I’m excited to welcome a new advertiser to the EMR and HIPAA family and suggest some options for advertising on EMR and HIPAA. As you can imagine with the increase in interest in EMR, more and more people have been reading this website which is extremely gratifying to me. Not only are the conversations in the comments enhanced, but it’s nice to be able to share my viewpoints and experience with more people.

So, I’d like to welcome our latest advertiser:
NextGen EMR – They are a quite large EMR vendor and a major player in the EMR world. I’m glad to have them on board. They are doing a EHR and Practice Management live demonstration on 10/20. Check here for more details.

One of my other advertisers also asked me to put together a list of possible advertising opportunities that I had available for them in the coming year. I thought that others might be interested in some of the ideas I sent them:
-Advertising on EMR and HIPAA – Check out all the details of advertising on EMR and HIPAA.
-Advertising on EMR and EHR – This is a relatively new site I’ve started which currently tries to highlight some of the various EMR and EHR related news items along with covering things that I don’t have time to cover on EMR and HIPAA. The ads work the same on this site as EMR and HIPAA, but at a much reduced rate.
-Advertising on my EMR and Healthcare IT focused twitter account – This Twitter account has 2400+ followers and will likely have about 3000 followers by the end of the year and is a highly focused group of people interested in EMR and healthcare IT. This advertising could be in the form of the background of my twitter profile page or through a number of tweets advertising your company over a certain period. I would plan on disclosing that it was an ad using something like a “#sponsor” tag (or something similar).
-HIMSS Conference Coverage Sponsorship – I’m planning to attend this year’s HIMSS annual conference and blog extensively about it. This will likely include video interviews of those I meet at the conference. The idea would be to have a few companies sponsor all of my posts from that conference. So, at the end of each post I would write, this post brought to you by “insert company name”. Something to that effect.
-Advertising on the EMR, EHR and HIPAA wiki – This is a rather new website that’s just starting to grow, but has provided some pretty good click throughs for EMR and HIPAA.
-EMR Related Book Sponsorship – This is still in the process of being created, but my plan is to create a number of e-Books and likely all together a physical book related to EMR selection and implementation. I’d consider having a section for sponsors of the book.
-EMR Conference – This is still in development as well, but I’m considering the possibilities of hosting an EMR conference in Las Vegas and sponsors would help keep the costs low.

I’d love to hear feedback on these various options. Let me know if you have any other questions or need more information on our Contact Us page.

New EMR and HIPAA Advertiser

Written by: John

As I usually do, I want to welcome a new advertiser to EMR and HIPAA. I always appreciate those who advertise on EMR and HIPAA and allow me to bring a different perspective to most of those you find in the EMR world. I also want to extend my thanks to those of you who read my blog every day. I’m always amazed at the list of people that comment on my blog and subscribe to the EMR and HIPAA email list. Thanks for making this the best EMR blog on the internet (of course I’m a little bias in this opinion).

Now onto EMR and HIPAA’s new advertiser:
MxSecure – This is a really unique transcription services company compared to the others I’ve seen. They’re really looking at merging the two worlds of transcription and EHR in a variety of ways. See the full description of MxSecure at the bottom of this post.

You can find more details about advertising on EMR and HIPAA on our EHR advertising page. Also, we’re just starting to accept advertisers on my blog partnership EMR and EHR for those looking for an additional EMR advertising option. Just drop me a line on our contact us page for more details.

EMR Vendor Advertising

Written by: John

A couple weeks ago I attended the HIMSS virtual conference. I must admit that I mostly wanted to attend to interact with people. One of the more interesting things I found while interacting with some of the vendors was the price that the various vendors paid to be able to exhibit at the HIMSS virtual conference. I should have known the price would be high, but it was quite astonishing to me.

With one vendor in particular we talked about the price they paid and my quick back of the paper calculation showed that for the same price of having a “second floor” exhibit at the HIMSS virtual conference that vendor could advertise on EMR and HIPAA for about three years. That’s right. 2 days at a virtual conference or 3 years on a website targeted to EMR.

Yes, this post is kind of a way to talk about advertising on EMR and HIPAA. However, I think it also gives some interesting perspective for EMR and EHR vendors that are trying to market their product. Certainly there are lots of channels that could be used, but I think advertising on this site is one of them.

I must admit that the pricing HIMSS is charging has made me think about what I charge for advertising on EMR and HIPAA. However, I don’t see me drastically changing my prices. My goal with advertisers has always been to try and provide them value for the dollars their spending. I figure if I do that, then they’ll keep renewing and life will be good. Luckily, they have been renewing and life is good.

Now I just wonder how many years of advertising an EMR vendor would get compared to the cost of a booth at the HIMSS annual conference. Reminds me of the open source EMR Medsphere Bus picture from HIMSS next to the Cerner Semi Truck.

EMR and HIPAA Advertisers – Thank You!

Written by: John

It’s that time again to recognize the new additions to the EMR and HIPAA advertising fold. Plus, a couple EMR and HIPAA advertisers have renewed and so I want to thank them as well.

New EMR Advertiser:
InterSystems – This is a really interesting company that works to integrate all your various healthcare application even across large geographic boundaries. Their software powers RHIO in Rhode Island and Long Island and they just recently announced that the Swedish National EHR will use InterSystems Healthshare™ software.

I’m also happy to have renewed EMR and HIPAA’s relationship with Medscribbler. I’m glad that I’ve been able to form some long term relationships with Medscribbler and appreciate their support in keeping the lights on here at EMR and HIPAA. A few other advertisers and renewals are in the works, but that will have to wait at least until next month.

Thanks also to all those who have signed up for the EMR and HIPAA email list, rss feed and those that are following me on Twitter.

We’re in a really exciting time for healthcare IT and electronic health records in particular. I’m glad to be apart of it. I hope I can continue to add value to those who read this site. If there’s something else you’d like me to cover please let me know. Luckily, most of you aren’t shy about telling me when they disagree. I love it when you do. Those are the best chances for myself and others to really learn. Let’s keep the running EMR commentary going.
