NoMoreClipboard Launches Enhanced Blue Button® Capability

Written by:

Fort Wayne, Ind. – May 3, 2012 – In support of healthcare industry efforts to make consumer access to digital health data a top priority, NoMoreClipboard today announced that its users can download their personal health record information in five different file formats including ASCII, .pdf, CCD, CCR and PHR Extract.

“We decided to launch a ‘Blue Button on steroids’ to give our users choice,” said Jeff Donnell, president of NoMoreClipboard. “While the Blue Button effort embraced by organizations like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Medicare enables veterans and Medicare beneficiaries to download health information, it does so in file formats which fall short of the interoperability standards required for certified electronic health record vendors. We added CCD, CCR and PHR extract formats to our Blue Button module, so patients can download a file that could be shared with an HIE, an electronic health record system, or another healthcare IT application that embraces standards-based interoperability protocols.”

“Like others who have adopted the Blue Button initiative, our users can download a human readable ASCII text file or a .pdf, which is inherently valuable” added Donnell. “Since we have been exchanging structured electronic data with other healthcare IT vendors for years at interoperability events and in the marketplace, we are enabling our users make their data available in formats that can be parsed – making discrete electronic data available for consumption. This reinforces our commitment to giving consumers a portable, interoperable personal health record designed to liberate, rather than imprison, health information.”

For more information on the Blue Buttoninitiative, please visit http://bluebuttondata.org. Blue Button, the Blue Button logo, and the slogan “Download My Data” are registered Service Marks of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), an agency of the United States Government and are used by permission of VA.

Consult A Doctor Prepares for 2012 Flu Season with Launch of FLUHOTLINE24/7, A Medical Resource for Patients Across the U.S

Written by:

Consult A Doctor, an innovator of telemedicine services and technology solutions, today announced the launch of FLUHOTLINE24/7, a resource that will connect people in all 50 states with board certified physicians that can diagnose, treat and prescribe medications, if appropriate, for the highly contagious flu virus via phone.

Here are some of the main highlights:
Industry Statistics
- According to a recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) announcement, more than 160 million cases of the flu are expected for the 2011-2012 flu season.
- In an average year, flu-related complications lead to over 200,000 hospitalizations, many of which are non-emergent and contribute to an overcrowded, wasteful healthcare system.

Consult A Doctor’s FLUHOTLINE24/7
- Consult A Doctor’s network of physicians use the most current clinical information and treatment guidelines from the CDC to answer any flu related questions and provide educational medical instruction and advice.
- A typical consultation with a Consult A Doctor physician via FLUHOTLINE24/7, either via a call to 1-855-DOC-4FLU or logging on to www.FLUHOTLINE247.com, takes just minutes and costs under $40, regardless of insurance status.
- Consult A Doctor also provides a web portal that grants patients and physicians access to a robust health library and other wellness tools.

Consult A Doctor Gives Patients Seeking Diagnosis and Treatment for Flu Symptoms Immediate Access to Physicians via Phone at Low Cost

Miami, FL., January 18, 2012 — The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recently announced that it is expecting more than 160 million cases of the flu over the 2011-2012 flu season. In an average year, complications related to the flu lead to over 200,000 hospitalizations, many of which are non-emergent and contribute to an overcrowded, wasteful healthcare system. To help solve the problem of physician access, Consult A Doctor, an innovator of telemedicine services and technology solutions, today announced the launch of FLUHOTLINE24/7, a resource that will connect people in all 50 states with board certified physicians that can diagnose, treat and prescribe medications, if appropriate, for the highly contagious flu virus via phone.

Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms may call 1-855-DOC-4FLU or log on to www.FLUHOTLINE247.com and be connected with a certified physician in real-time, from anywhere, 24/7/365. A Consult A Doctor physician will conduct a brief consultation via phone. For patients that may need medication, a thorough medical intake will be performed and, if warranted, the doctor can provide a prescription for anti-viral or other indicated medications.

Consult A Doctor’s network of physicians use the most current clinical information and treatment guidelines from the CDC to answer any flu related questions and provide educational medical instruction and advice. A typical consultation with a Consult A Doctor physician via FLUHOTLINE24/7 takes just minutes and costs under $40, regardless of insurance status.

“Until now, concierge medicine has been something few people could obtain. When we are sick, we typically have to get in our cars and drive ourselves to our primary physician’s office – if we have one. If not, our options are quite limited and usually entail spending most of a day at the local ER, wasting time and spending hundreds of dollars,” said Wolf Shlagman, Founder and CEO of Consult A Doctor. “With telemedicine services, this entire process changes. Patients can obtain affordable, quality medical care without ever leaving their home. This is especially important when dealing with a pandemic like the flu as it insulates physicians, patients and the general public from exposure to germs.”

In addition to the FLUHOTLINE24/7 resource, Consult A Doctor also provides a web portal that grants patients and physicians access to a robust health library and other wellness tools. Using this web portal, visitors may schedule appointments, store and share Personal Health Records (PHRs) and consult with physicians regarding any non-emergency illness via secure email consultations.

“As a practicing physician, I have seen influenza season put a strain on time, energy and resources – not only in my own practice but also in urgent care clinics, ER departments and hospitals. Many times health problems are exacerbated by patients not seeking care in a timely manner, resulting in worsening illness and serious complications, including bronchitis, pneumonia, respiratory failure and even death,” said Dr. Doug Smith, CMO of Consult A Doctor and Co-founder of MinuteClinic. “The ability to utilize telemedicine to provide earlier, more timely and more appropriate treatment allows clinicians and patients to reduce the duration and progression of the flu. Telemedicine also helps to identify those patients who are severely ill and direct them to other care settings, if needed, in an efficient and prompt manner.”

About Consult A Doctor

NoMoreClipboard Partners with iMPak Health and Meridian Health to Develop Comprehensive ACO Solutions

Written by:

As the healthcare industry migrates to accountable care and medical home models, NoMoreClipboard has partnered with iMPak Health and Meridian Health to develop an electronic solution that will securely and wirelessly transmit health information from a patient’s home to their health care providers and caregivers.

Fort Wayne, IN and Neptune, N.J – December 5, 2011 – As the healthcare industry migrates to accountable care and medical home models, NoMoreClipboard (NMC), the leading personal health record provider, announced a collaborative agreement with iMPak Health, L.L.C. to develop IT solutions that combine easy-to-use electronic home healthcare journals and various health screening devices with clinical portals and personal health records. These end-to-end electronic solutions will securely and wirelessly transmit health information from a patient’s home to their health care providers and caregivers.
The iMPak Health journals and screening devices capture electronic data in a simple-to-use form factor designed to overcome intimidation barriers for technology-averse populations. These devices are ideal for the millions of elderly patients who are uncomfortable with computers, or for consumers who cannot afford expensive technology.
About the size of a smart phone or credit card, iMPak Health products are daily journal device cards that capture health-related data and transmit the information wirelessly via an NFC reader to mobile device applications. Data can then be shared securely with personal health records provided by NMC, enabling patients and family members to manage and share captured health and wellness data. Data also feeds a clinical portal developed by NMC that enables clinical staff to monitor subjective and objective information collected by patients. The clinical portal includes care plan-driven algorithms tied to particular conditions, and will identify patients requiring more intensive intervention. The clinical portal will also generate reminders, alerts and feedback to patients and their caregivers.
“Health systems are looking for complete end-to-end solutions to manage the health and wellness of their patients, and employers and are looking for applications to help them improve workforce health and wellness,” said Sandra Elliott, Director of Consumer Technology and Service Development at Meridian Health, a not-for-profit health system in New Jersey that helped to create iMPak.
“A successful medical home or ACO is not just about one device or an information management platform – it is about the integration of these tools in new ways that can transform how health and wellness services are coordinated between the patient and healthcare providers.”
NoMoreClipboard and iMPak are developing pulmonary solutions to address COPD and adult asthma, with expected launch in early 2012. Cardiovascular and health/wellness solutions are also planned for 2012.
“Our collaboration with iMPak is focused on helping health systems and employers improve clinical outcomes, reduce ER visits and hospital readmissions, and decrease total costs associated with managing chronic disease – hallmarks of a successful ACO or medical home program,” said Jeff Donnell, President of NoMoreClipboard. “Meridian and iMPak are ideal partners, as Meridian is able to pilot and refine our combined solutions within their health system.”
“NoMoreClipboard’s proven success in deploying flexible, affordable, web-based healthcare IT applications combined with our low cost, consumer friendly devices will provide an easy-to-use and affordable option for providers, employers and patients alike,” continues Sal Inciardi, Senior Vice President for Business Development, Meridian Health.

Survey: Physicians Believe EHRs are Safer than Paper Records, Patients Evenly Split

Written by:

More and more physicians in the United States are going digital and at Practice Fusion, we were curious to learn about how both physicians and patients feel about this shift. We asked over 1,000 physician and 1,200 patients their pick on which is safer, paper or EHRs, and discovered that physicians believe that the digital option is safer while patients are divided.

Practice Fusion survey compares physician and patient opinions about medical record systems, highlights changing perceptions of health IT

San Francisco – November 2, 2011 – Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems are becoming more common in exam rooms across the US but how is the technology transition being perceived?  A survey conducted by GfK Roper for Practice Fusion asked patients about their views on the safety of EHR versus paper charts while a separate survey posed the same questions to medical professionals.  The results: a majority of physicians report that EHRs are safer than their paper record counterparts, citing accessibility of data as the top safety benefit.  Patient perception is mixed with 47 percent stating that paper is safer and 39 percent believing that EHRs are actually the safer option.

Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems vs. paper medical charts:

Physicians agreed that EHRs (54 percent) are safer with only 18 percent of respondents selecting paper as the safer option

  • Of doctors who say EHRs are safer, access to records when needed is the top benefit (63 percent)
  • Doctors who select paper charts as the safer option believe that paper is more secure because it is less likely to be hacked or lost (36 percent)

Patient views on medical records are mixed. 47 percent believe that paper is safer and 39 percent believe that EHRs are safer

  • Of patients who say EHRs are safer, 77 percent strongly agree that being able to access records when needed is the greatest benefit of EHRs over paper
  • Of patients who say paper charts were safer, 59 percent agree or strongly agree that paper records are the more private option and allow for more control over who sees those records

“The medical community is rejecting paper charts and embracing technology,” said Robert Rowley, MD, Practice Fusion’s Medical Director. “As a practicing physician using an EHR, I understand the benefits and some of the concerns both physicians and patients have. With more education about why EHRs are safer than paper charts, we’ll see even more physicians switching from paper and patients demanding a digital solution.”

Practice Fusion, the fastest growing EHR community in the Unites States, applies the highest level of data infrastructure, virus prevention and encryption measures to ensure bank-level security of medical records. Records stored in Practice Fusion’s private cloud are securely accessible to doctors 24/7 and protected against fire, flood, theft or loss. Doctors can grant patients access to their records in real-time online using the Practice Fusion Personal Health Record (PHR). Practice Fusion meets and exceeds all HIPAA security requirements.

Survey methodology

The Practice Fusion “EHR vs Paper Charts” study was conducted via an omnibus survey on October 21-23 2011. The GfK Roper OmniTel survey is a weekly national phone survey of US households. Interviews were conducted from among a nationally representative sample of 1,006 adults age 18 or older. The margin of error on weighted data is +/- 3 percentage points for the full sample.

The physician survey was conducted online on October 28, 2011 using the same questions with a sample of 1,220 medical professionals.

About Practice Fusion

Practice Fusion provides a free, web-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to physicians. With charting, scheduling, e-prescribing, lab integrations, referral letters, Meaningful Use certification, unlimited support and a Personal Health Record for patients, Practice Fusion’s EHR addresses the complex needs of today’s healthcare providers and disrupts the health IT status quo. Practice Fusion is the fastest growing EHR community in the country with more than 100,000 users serving 24 million patients. The company closed a $23 million Series B round of financing led by Founders Fund in April 2011. For more information about Practice Fusion, please visit practicefusion.com.

The Telemedicine Revolution Begins Today with A Free, Cloud-Based Platform for Practices From Consult A Doctor

Written by:

Consult A Doctor, an innovator of telemedicine services and technology solutions, today announced the launch of MYPRACTICE24/7, the first in a series of TeleCare 3.0 cloud-based telemedicine solutions designed to improve access for patients while opening new revenue streams for providers and reducing costs for employers and insurers. MYPRACTICE24/7 will be available free to practices interested in providing anytime access to their providers as well as to Consult A Doctor’s national network of on-call physicians for after hours, out-of-state and overflow care.

MYPRACTICE24/7 Delivers Game Changing Power of Next-Generation Telemedicine to Improve Access and Increase Practice Revenue While Lowering Cost of Care

Las Vegas, NV., October 24, 2011 (MGMA Booth #357) — According to the AMA, as many as 70% of all doctor visits could have been handled over the phone, and over 65% of ER visits are non-emergent. Patients seeking care in settings that are excessive for their needs is a major component of the estimated $300 billion spent annually on unnecessary, inappropriate or wasteful care. Telemedicine not only promises to dramatically reduce these costs, but at the same time make access to care easier for patients and make more revenue attainable for practices.

Consult A Doctor, an innovator of telemedicine services and technology solutions, today announced the launch of MYPRACTICE24/7, the first in a series of cloud-based telemedicine solutions designed to improve access for patients while opening new revenue streams for providers and reducing costs for employers and insurers. MYPRACTICE24/7 will be available free to practices interested in providing anytime access to their providers as well as to Consult A Doctor’s national network of on-call physicians for after hours, out-of-state and overflow care.

Based on TeleCare 3.0, Consult A Doctor’s cloud-based telemedicine platform, MYPRACTICE24/7 is fully secure and HIPAA compliant, and can be customized to support the specific needs of a wide range of practices. In addition to enabling provider-patient encounters anywhere, at any time, this robust platform also includes the following features for providers and their patients:

- Telemedicine platform and communication center
- Marketing and patient enrollment website
- EMR and clinical tools
- Online scheduling and secure messaging
- Mobile application, phone, online and video consults
- Patient portal and Personal Health Manager
- 24/7 Doctor On-Call Hotline for patients
- Request and refill e-Prescription and eLabs
- Online Personal Health Record
- Health library and wellness tools

Perfected over more than four years of providing direct-to-consumer telemedicine services and working with health plans, employers and other groups on telemedicine programs for their members, MYPRACTICE24/7 will allow physicians to practice care from anywhere via phone, email or video all while ensuring compensation and adding new revenue to their practice. MYPRACTICE24/7 empowers patients to receive quality, affordable care 24/7/365, thereby avoiding unnecessary, costly ER and office visits.

“Telemedicine is a win for everyone,” said Wolf Shlagman, CEO of Consult A Doctor. “Employers and health plans see a major reduction in cost of care by shifting a large percentage of encounters to a more 46 cost-appropriate setting; doctors get compensated for phone and online consultations like any other professional would; and patients get access to care whenever and wherever they need it for a very low cost. It’s like concierge medicine at Wal-Mart prices. Telemedicine makes so much sense for everyone, it is a healthcare revolution just waiting to happen – and by making the first next-generation telemedicine platform available to practices for free, we are kicking-off that revolution today.”

The new cloud-based telemedicine platform, MYPRACTICE24/7, will be launched in an invitation-only phased roll-out at www.ConsultADoctor.com. Attendees at the Medical Group Management Association’s (MGMA) 2011 Annual Conference, taking place from October 23 to 26 in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center, can also register at the Consult A Doctor booth (#357) during exhibit hours.

Washington D.C. Health System Implements WebChart from Medical Informatics Engineering to Manage Military Physicals and Maritime Medicine Worldwide

Written by:

A Washington D.C. health system is utilizing a Web-based telemedicine application from MIE to collect, track and manage medical information gathered from military field physicals in the Middle East and maritime medicine worldwide.  The system is already reducing monthly costs by about $6,000, and will improve the quality of care for military personnel. Military personnel will also have the opportunity to set up a personal health record (PHR) to carry with them throughout their military career and well into the future.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – October 20, 2011 – In an effort to improve the quality of care and health outcomes for patients on eight U.S. Military bases throughout the Area Support Group – Kuwait while also keeping costs down, Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE) today announced that The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (GW-MFA) is utilizing MIE’s WebChart to collect, track and manage medical information gathered from field physicals in the Middle East and patient encounters.
In Phase One of the project, implemented in January 2011, MIE developed a Web-based system to help GW-MFA physicians in the Middle East easily and quickly record and manage medical information.  Patient encounters are also documented in the field and shared with physicians at GW-MFA.
Phase Two of the project, rolling out now, will give physicians the ability to collect medical data in the field even when they have limited internet access, and then automatically synchronize the information with WebChart when internet access is available.  In addition, MIE is creating an electronic telemedicine application in support of Maritime Medical Access – the flagship telemedicine service provided by The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates.   The Web-based telemedicine application will assist GW-MFA Emergency Physicians when responding to and treating ill crew members at sea.  These patient encounters will be kept within WebChart and HIPAA-compliant information will be forwarded to the ship’s company to inform them of the treatment and follow up protocols.
“WebChart from MIE has greatly improved patient care for our Maritime Medical Access patients and has already started to reduce costs,” said Kyle Keenan, Director of Remote Medical, GW-MFA Department of Emergency Medicine. “Not only are we able to give our patients — all of whom are thousands of miles away on a ship — the best possible care, we’re also able to provide this care more efficiently.  MIE was able to scale its web-based system to provide quick point and click entry.  Since WebChart is internet based, we also don’t have to worry about servers being down and / or inaccessible overseas.”
“MIE’s WebChart is expected to save us approximately $3,000 per year in servers on the ships, and an additional $3,000 per month on bandwidth airtime on our big vessels,” continued Keenan.  “Further cost savings and improved patient care will also be realized if one of our crew members needs to be transferred to a port for further treatment.  Diverting a vessel at the last minute can be very costly.  WebChart gives us a big picture look at our patients so there are no surprises.”
As part of the application, MIE and The GW-MFA will also create a personal health record (PHR) for the patient and automatically transfer the information into the patient’s account.  Crew members will also have the option of setting up their own NoMoreClipboard PHR prior to deployment to allow the ship’s medical officer and the clinical staff, greater access to their full medical history.
“We are honored to be working with The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates on these very innovative projects that will help improve the quality of healthcare for America’s military, while significantly reducing costs” said Bruce Lisanti, president and CEO of Medical Informatics Engineering.  “WebChart will help GW-MFA easily collect and manage medical information on remote patients that will help improve their medical care while in the military and then be available for them whenever they need it, either at a military or civilian facility.”
About Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE)
MIE offers a Minimally Invasive™ suite of products that are easy to use, flexible and cost effective. MIE systems are ONC-ATCB certified for Meaningful Use and are CCHIT Certified with a 5-Star usability rating – the highest possible rating.

In August 2011, MIE helped Stephen Thomsen, M.D. of Hudson Essex Nephrology, become the first physician to attest for meaningful use in Hudson County and in Union City, New Jersey. The practice has transitioned over 11,000 patient files to MIE’s WebChart EHR and is also offering a fully integrated personal health record (PHR) from NoMoreClipboard, allowing patients to take a more active role in their healthcare.
“We look forward to working with NJ-HITEC and their physician partners in the future.  WebChart EHR from MIE is the perfect solution for small to mid-sized physician practices in New Jersey,” said Bruce Lisanti, CEO of Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE).  “It is an easy to use, affordable, Web-based platform accessible from any location, on any device that can be customized to a practice’s specific workflow.”

NoMoreClipboard.com Pledges its Support for National PHR Initiatives at ONC / HHS Consumer Health IT Summit

Written by:
WASHINGTON D.C. – September 12, 2011 – At a Consumer Health IT Summit conducted today in Washington D.C. by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), NoMoreClipboard.com reinforced its position as one of the leading personal health record (PHR) providers in the U.S., demonstrating its support for several national initiatives focused on consumer access to health information.
At the event, Jeff Donnell, president of NoMoreClipboard.com, announced the company will pilot a new PHR Model Privacy Notice developed by HHS. Donnell also pledged company support of a new ONC / HHS consumer health IT program — “Putting the I in Health IT” – with the launch of a new product enhancement called cc:Me. Donnell also provided an update on the company’s activities relating to a $1.25 million ONC Challenge Grant given to the organization and Indiana Health Information Technology, Inc. (IHIT).
PHR Privacy Notice
NoMoreClipboard voiced its support of HHS’ PHR Model Privacy Notice designed to communicate data sharing and security policies to consumers, volunteering to pilot this new tool.  Similar to the FDA’s nutrition facts label, the new privacy notice will empower consumers to compare PHR products and make informed choices about using a PHR to store and manage their health information. The PHR Model Privacy Notice was developed based on consumer testing to address the issues consumers care most about, using language they understand.

“We believe the Model Privacy Notice will make privacy and security practices transparent, easing consumer concerns about selecting and using a personal health record,” said Donnell.

“We intend to post our PHR Privacy Notice as soon as the HHS Web tool goes live later this week.  We look forward to working with ONC on this important effort.”

Challenge Grant Update
Working with Indiana Health Information Technology, Inc. (IHIT), the state’s healthcare IT entity, NoMoreClipboard.com is managing a $1.25 million ONC Challenge Grant project designed to help consumers access their HIE data. NoMoreClipboard is working with the five established HIEs in Indiana to develop policies and solutions designed to support patient identification and authentication, data liquidity and secure messaging. More than a dozen pilot sites including physician practices, health systems, safety net clinics and employer clinics are participating, providing personal health records to their patients. Pilot site use cases and patient populations are diverse, and include urban and rural settings across the state. In every case, personal health records will be populated with HIE data.
“Indiana is an established leader in health information exchange and healthcare IT adoption, and this grant project will secure our state’s position as an innovator in patient engagement,” said Donnell. “With the support of our HIEs and an active provider community, we are developing a scalable model for consumer access to medical data that can be replicated around the country.”
Putting the “I” in Health IT
Pledging its support of this new ONC consumer education initiative that will help empower individuals to be more engaged in their health through the use of health IT, NoMoreClipboard.com launched and demonstrated cc:Me, a simple and secure medical record mail service that helps physicians and patients share health information in a standard electronic format.  cc:Me is designed to make it easy for doctors and hospitals  to send electronic documents to a patient cc:Me address – a URL or secure email that enables the patient to receive medical data using Direct Project protocols.
“One of the barriers to widespread consumer adoption of portable personal health records has been the difficulty of populating a PHR with existing clinical data,” said Donnell at the event. “cc:Me simplifies the exchange of health information in an industry-standard format that is interoperable with any certified electronic health record system used by physicians and hospitals, with no need for integration.  We are excited to launch this product enhancement in support of the ONC’s Putting the I in Health IT program.”
