Indigo Identityware Announces Password-free Strong Authentication for Mobile Clinicians

Written by:

Password-free strong authentication for all clinical computing platforms

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 13, 2012 - Indigo Identityware announces that its password-free strong authentication product, iDNA, has been expanded to address all clinical computing environments. Whether it’s thick, thin or zero client desktops, virtual desktops with VMware™ or Citrix®, or mobile tablets such as iPad®, Android® or Win7®, Indigo’s iDNA™ offers clinicians quick, secure log on without the hassles of passwords.  The user simply has their unique 4-digit PIN, and he or she can utilize any or all of the following environments.

Mobile
iDNA works with any mobile solution including the iPad, Android devices and Win 7 platforms. Clinicians who like to use their iPad or other mobile devices to access their clinical desktop and/or applications can do so without security concerns. Whether they are managed or unmanaged devices, Indigo securely and simply logs users in with a four-digit personal identification number (PIN).

Managed Desktops
Most clinicians’ work gets done within the enterprise. And, just like Indigo works with mobile and independent desktops, iDNA also works within a managed desktop environment. In fact, Indigo’s solution eliminates help desk calls as a result of forgotten passwords as iDNA does not use complicated passwords to securely log users in. Whether it’s Indigo’s next-generation biometric solution or its proximity card and PIN, Indigo quickly and safely logs users in and out of their desktops.

Virtual Desktops

Many clinical establishments are moving to virtual platforms, with the use of Citrix, VMware or Terminal Services®, to help with the overall management and administration of complex clinical environments that include multitudes of clinical applications and EMRs. Virtual environments also enable clinicians the flexibility to roam about within their enterprise and access their desktop from any location. Indigo iDNA works with all virtual platforms and ensures users complete security for HIPAA compliance.

Independent Desktops
iDNA is compatible with independent desktops outside of the domain and not requiring access control, such as Win 7, Win XP® and soon to include Linux® and Mac®. Users access their desktop outside of their managed enterprise, and then securely log in using iDNA.

Independa Unveils Health Measures at CES 2012 Digital Health Summit– An Easy, Affordable Option for Home Health Monitoring

Written by:

Independa announced, during the Consumer Electronics Show, Health Measures– a simple, affordable option to enhance remote health monitoring of the elderly that doesn’t require wireless infrastructure in a home.

The new service will integrate conventional telephony with Independa’s cloud-based services to enable professional and family caregivers to easily record biometric information using only a wireline or mobile phone and have it merged with other data presented on the Independa Caregiver Web app.

This announcement will follow Independa’s announcement of a collaboration with LG to offer an industry-first suite of TV-based services specifically for long-term care facilities. That offering will provide Independa’s cloud-based Angela™ application on LG Electronics’ Pro:Centric™-enabled commercial televisions designed for the unique needs of communities for the elderly.

Cloud-Based Service Works with Any Wireline or Mobile Phone, Allowing Convenient Monitoring of the Elderly

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 11, 2012Independa today announced plans during the 2012 International CES for Health Measures – a platform combining conventional telephony with existing Independa cloud-based services to improve remote care for the elderly.

Simple, affordable Health Measures doesn’t require cellular coverage, broadband service or wireless devices in the home, making it ideal for care recipients who live in rural areas with poor cellular coverage, have limited funds to invest in wireless health devices, or have limited time to implement wireless health monitoring solutions immediately after leaving the hospital.

Health Measures allows home-health and home-care professionals, as well as senior-living facilities and family caregivers, to easily record a multitude of crucial biometric data, including weight, blood pressure, glucose level, temperature, pulse and heart rate. Information entered using a wireline or mobile phone is converted to digital form and delivered to Independa’s cloud-based telecare solution. All information collected is merged with other data to provide a complete and perpetual view of a person’s body telemetry and bio-informatics. The information is presented on the Independa Caregiver Web App, which also enables caregivers to create and follow responses to automatic reminders for those being cared for to take their medications, exercise, eat, hydrate and keep medical appointments.

“We have designed Health Measures to help mitigate expensive and often debilitating conditions that commonly arise during transitions in care,” said Independa CEO Kian Saneii. “Our new service will enable hospitals, other caregiving organizations and family caregivers to begin monitoring a care recipient’s biotelemetry as soon as the person returns to their residence. Professional and family caregivers will receive timely information, avoiding the need for time-consuming and costly routine home visits.

“Health Measures offers a convenient, intuitive way to provide better, more cost-effective care for elderly people who need remote observation but whose residences don’t have the technological infrastructure for sophisticated wireless health monitoring solutions,” said Dr. Richard Della Penna, Independa Chief Medical Officer and former Kaiser Permanente national eldercare lead. “Considering that most conditions requiring a return to the hospital emerge in the first three days after discharge, Health Measures provides hospitals and other healthcare organizations new opportunities to avoid readmissions and related Medicare and Medicaid penalties.”

Independa plans to make Health Measures available in February after a month of pilot testing. Health Measures offers a no-hardware, no-installation, lower-cost alternative to complement Independa’s Artemis™ solution, a wireless health and home sensor platform. The same alerts and thresholds apply, whether health information is received conveniently via a telephone or a wireless health device.

Health Measures and Artemis both build on the Caregiver Web App and on Independa’s touchscreen-based Angela™ offering, which focuses on social engagement for the care recipient. Angela provides single-touch access to games, puzzles, favorite websites, video Web chat, Facebook, email, a photo album and a calendar planner, as well as health-metrics reporting.

For more information about Health Measures, visit www.independa.com/health-measures.

Indigo Identityware Announces Strong Authentication E-Prescribe Functionality

Written by:
Minneapolis, MN - June 21, 2011 - Indigo Identityware, Inc, a rapidly-growing leader in the Identity & Access Management industry, announced strong authentication electronic prescription (e-prescribe) functionality for physicians in clinical and hospital settings.
Indigo Identityware’s e-Prescribe Functionality

Indigo’s eSign capabilities allow physicians to electronically sign prescriptions utilizing finger biometrics or proximity cards. As a secondary form of authentication, a four digit PIN (personal identification number) can be used, similar to the process used for accessing a bank account from an ATM. Indigo, unlike other solution providers who use ‘passwords’ as a secondary form of authentication, uses a PIN which is easier to remember and implement. Indigo’s exclusive solution design stores, manages, and changes passwords automatically.

“Indigo Identityware’s advanced session management capabilities allow physicians to perform ‘two factor authentication’ using the touch of a finger or the tap of a card in combination with a PIN as a ‘secondary’ factor, fulfilling the requirements set forth by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for electronic prescription of controlled substances.” said Tom Rheineck, CEO and President of Indigo Identityware.

“As a result of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), which was implemented to ensure the health, safety and well-being of consumers, medical providers are incentivized to implement electronic health record (EHR) systems that include electronic prescribing. Physicians are required to write 40% of their overall prescriptions electronically in order to qualify for meaningful use rewards. Indigo’s solution allows physicians a secure and simple way to meet the HITECH specifications,” said Mr. Rheineck.

About Indigo Identityware
Indigo Identityware, a leader in the identity and access management industry, offers the first and only Behavioral Strong Authentication and Single Sign-on (SSO) for the extended enterprise. Indigo’s flexible design supports multiple strong authentication methods, including next-generation biometrics, providing users with secure and fast access to information. It increases workflow productivity while helping customers ensure regulatory compliance. The software-only solution is cost-effective and deploys quickly with its unique, lightweight “snap-in” design. For more information, visit www.indigoidware.com.

Breakthrough in Secure Mobile Device Access Using a Universal Corporate Identity

Written by:

PLEASANTON, Calif., February 17, 2011 — idOnDemand, the pioneers in smart identification, introduces the world’s first “clientless” One-Time Password (OTP) mobility solution using a contactless smart identity card. The idOnDemand SmartID mobile technology revolutionizes corporate VPN and information access from mobile devices. Using its patent pending technology, users simply touch their idOnDemand Personal Identity Verification (PIV) compatible corporate ID to facilitate a highly secure login from their tablet computer, smart phone or hand-held mobile phone.

With this groundbreaking extension to idOnDemand’s managed identity service, customers can use one identity card for building access, computer access, cloud security and now compatible mobile devices. This solution replaces the need to carry expiring hardware OTP tokens with hard to read LCD screens or install and manage soft token clients on personal and corporate mobile devices.

“With the increase in workforce mobility, organizations are being caught off guard by the use of personal tablet computers and smart phones within the corporate environment. Personal devices are being used to store or interact with sensitive systems and data, often only protected by a username or password,” said Jason Hart, Chief Executive Officer at idOnDemand. “We are at the forefront of innovation by bringing to market a solution that securely authenticates to corporate or cloud resources without the need for a client or custom application to be installed on personal mobile devices. By simply touching your corporate identity card on your device and entering your pin you can gain secure access to resources from any compatible mobile device.”

idOnDemand SmartIDs can be used with any OATH compliant authentication server or managed authentication service. Unlike other mobile solutions such as SMS or soft tokens, the idOnDemand solution works out of the box on a new compatible device, eliminating the need for software to be installed. Additionally, users do not depend on network availability or text fees. The idOnDemand SmartID mobile feature can redirect the user to a predefined URL after presenting their card to the phone where they securely authenticate to applications, cloud resources like Google apps, salesforce.com and other corporate websites.

“Leveraging industry standards like OATH gives customers choice and flexibility,” said Donald Malloy, chair of the Marketing Committee for OATH. “We are pleased that idOnDemand selected OATH as the backbone of their One-Time Password strategy.”

The idOnDemand SmartID mobile functionality is unique because all personal information related to the individual, and the logic that drives the behavior, is on the PIV compatible smart card and not the mobile device. Organizations no longer have to provision and manage mobile software clients in the traditional sense because there is no software to install. All of the management is done through policy and secure issuance of the corporate credential, enabling enterprises to embrace a single secure identity no matter how their people access corporate information.

The idOnDemand SmartID mobile feature is based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. This solution allows customers to deploy one infrastructure that supports both PIV x.509 certificate authentication and OTP authentication when certificates are not practical.

The idOnDemand SmartID mobile feature is now available as part of the idOnDemand managed identity service and completes the idOnDemand vision of having one secure identity for buildings, computers, in the cloud and on the go.

About idOnDemand
idOnDemand delivers a standards based, single trusted identity and smart card solution. Using the idOnDemand managed service, organizations can quickly, easily and cost effectively grant trusted access for employees, customers and partners to information and assets such as IT systems, remote access, data encryption, secure email, building access and mobile authentication. Authorized users no longer need to carry multiple tokens, ID cards, building access cards or remember multiple passwords.

idOnDemand has offices in the United States and Australia. For more information, visit www.idOnDemand.com.

WALL, NJ, and ALBUQUERQUE, NM — February 16, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BIO-key International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI.OB), a leader in finger-based biometric identification solutions and Lumidigm, Inc., the multispectral imaging biometrics company, have partnered to provide a strong authentication solution for e-prescriptions at Genesis HealthCare System. Today, Genesis HealthCare is utilizing BIO-key’s biometric identification software with Lumidigmfingerprint sensors so staff may quickly, conveniently and securely establish identity when ordering, verifying or administering medications as required by Ohio law.

Genesis HealthCare System, based in Zanesville, Ohio, is a not-for-profit organization that operates two hospital sites — Genesis-Bethesda and Genesis-Good Samaritan — in Zanesville, Ohio, and several affiliated health care organizations across a six-county region of southeastern Ohio.  For years, doctors and pharmacists in Ohio have been required to use two-factor authentication when electronically prescribing controlled substances and as of June 2010, the DEA has also mandated two-factor authentication for electronically prescribing controlled substances nationwide. Genesis HealthCare is able to meet these requirements using BIO-key’s biometric fingerprint identification software and Lumidigm biometric sensors.

Currently, 2,000 clinicians and staff are using BIO-key fingerprint biometrics leveraging Lumidigm multispectral imaging sensors to establish their identity in Genesis’s Epic software to order, verify or administer medications. In the next phase of this project, Genesis will be implementing fingerprint biometric user logon with Vergence, a single sign-on solution from Sentillion, a Microsoft company. With these solutions in place, Genesis staff members will instantly establish their identity with the simple touch of a finger, even when wearing latex gloves.

This BIO-key identification solution, in conjunction with Lumidigm readers, is integrated with all major electronic medical records (EMR) software suites, including Epic and Allscript’s Enterprise EHR as well as major single sign-on (SSO) providers, including Microsoft’s Sentillion, Evidian, IBM, Oracle, CA and more.

“With BIO-key as our partner, we were able to be up and running from the initial inception in less than five months. A lot of vendors talk about being our partner; BIO-key didn’t talk, they delivered,” said Ed Romito, vice president and CIO of Genesis HealthCare. “Additionally, BIO-key’s ability to operate with every major fingerprint reader manufacturer allowed us to evaluate a variety of readers to determine which would work best in our environment. As a result of our testing, we determined that Lumidigm’s Mercury sensor provided us with the best performance, including the ability for our staff working in isolation rooms to establish their identity when wearing latex gloves!”

“Individual physicians frequently sign tens if not hundreds of prescriptions daily. With BIO-key fingerprint identification and Lumidigm sensors, this process is more secure, faster and extremely convenient, compared to the other two-factor alternatives,” added Mike DePasquale, CEO of BIO-key International. “With BIO-key’s ability to operate on mobile platforms including tablets and smart phones combined with the capabilities and value that Lumidigm’s multispectral imaging technology brings to our customers, other markets will also be able to benefit from our partnership.”

“Because skin dryness is so prevalent in the healthcare industry, due in part to constant hand washing, traditional fingerprint sensors can produce up to a twenty percent failure rate,” explains Bill Spence, Lumidigm vice president of transaction systems. “In other situations, when the policy allows it, healthcare workers wearing latex gloves do not want to remove them to use the biometric reader. Lumidigm’s Mercury Series multispectral fingerprint sensors capture fingerprint data beneath the surface of the skin so that dryness or gloves create no problems for reliable reads.”

The Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances rule was issued by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as an amendment to the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, commonly known as the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). According to the rule, the doctor or pharmacist creating the prescription must authenticate with two of the following: “something you know (a knowledge factor), something you have (a hard token stored separately from the computer being accessed), and something you are (biometric information). The hard token, if used, must be a cryptographic device or a one-time-password device that meets Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 Security Level 1.” For increased security, less complicated management and ease of doctor/pharmacist use, most healthcare organizations prefer that one of the authentication factors be biometric.

A demonstration of the BIO-key / Lumidigm e-prescribing solution will be featured in Booth #5242 at the HIMSS11 Exhibition on February 21-23 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The research firm of Frost & Sullivan recently awarded the New Product Innovation of the Year Award, Fingerprint Biometrics, North America, 2010, to Lumidigm. According to Frost & Sullivan, Lumidigm’s “innovative technology allows Lumidigm fingerprint sensors to provide highly accurate biometric data even in adverse conditions where traditional fingerprint sensors fail.”
