M*Modal CEO Receives 2011 Carnegie Science Award
Michael Finke Named Winner in Entrepreneur Category; Award Recognizes Science and Technology Achievements in 2011
Pittsburgh, PA — February 9, 2011 — M*Modal, the industry leader in advanced
Speech Understanding™ technology, announced today that it’s CEO, Michael Finke, has been selected as the winner of the 2011 Carnegie Science Award in the “Entrepreneur” category. The Carnegie Science Awards, assigned by the Carnegie Science Center and sponsored by Eaton Corporation, promote outstanding science and technology achievements in western Pennsylvania and help fund Science Center exhibits and educational programs across the state.
Celebrating its15th year, the Carnegie Science Awards have honored the accomplishments of more than 275 individuals, including Finke, and organizations that have improved lives through their commitment and contributions in science and technology.
Finke, a prominent entrepreneur and scientist, is a respected technology leader in the field of conversational speech understanding. Prior to founding M*Modal, Finke served as CTO and cofounder of Interactive Systems, a pioneer in conversational speech understanding for the healthcare, tele-communications, automotive, media and entertainment markets. Finke has also held research positions at IBM, the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) and Carnegie Mellon University. Michael earned his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany.

This Carnegie Science Award recognition builds upon a year of multiple honors for M*Modal. Most recently, M*Modal was named a ‘Tech 50’ award recipient in the information technology category by the Pittsburgh Technology Council. M*Modal also recently received the Pittsburgh Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in Western Pennsylvania award, the Speech Technology Magazine’s Speech Luminary award, presented to Finke, and a recognition by the Pittsburgh Technology Council.
