As most of you know, I’ve been exploring various new live video platforms like Periscope. I even did a few periscope videos from Dubai while I was teaching an EHR workshop. I got one of the attendees on camera (maybe I’ll post the video to YouTube later) and he really enjoyed being part of the live stream (I know he did since he thanked me later for it.). Interestingly, this was a doctor who was in charge of the EHR implementation for his hospital in Saudi Arabia.
All the cool kids on social media and content marketing circles I follow had recently started using Blab for their video streaming. Since I’m always interested in exploring new platforms, I decided I’d give it a try and see how it was the same and different than Periscope and Google Plus hangouts which I’ve used quite extensively.
I invited a few friends to join me in our inaugural Blab and we were off and running. It was a totally impromptu Blab with no planning and many times we were trying to figure out exactly how Blab worked (so excuse the informal parts including my laughing when I say the word Blab), but you can watch the replay of the Blab here or in the embedded video below:
Pretty amazing that we could get a number of doctors to join us live for an impromptu Blab that lasted an hour. On the video we talk quite a bit about Blab, Periscope, Google Plus, Meerkat, and other online video streams. However, we also talk about a number of other topics like healthcare and hospital ratings for example. A marketer from a hospital joined us and gave some great insights into what they’re seeing and what they’re working on from a hospital perspective. We even ask the question on whether doctors are watching blabs/periscopes/etc and the impact of HIPAA.
As I mention on the video, Blab is a fun extension of what was already happening with justin.tv, uStream, Google Plus hangouts, Periscope, Meerkat, etc. All we have to do is look at what was happening in healthcare on those platforms and we will have a good idea of how Blabs can be used in healthcare. Healthcare education will certainly be leading there, but also live streaming of surgeries and plenty of reaching out to customers by vendors.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Blab and the other topics we talked about in the video above. Plus, where in healthcare could you see value in live video streaming options like Blab?
