Epic April Fool’s Day Jokes

April Fool’s Day is a great and awful day. I have to admit that I really enjoyed playing an April Fool’s joke on my daughter, but I also felt a little bad for her. It’s such a mixed basket for me. However, a well done April Fool’s joke is well worth it.

If you’re really old school, you might remember this April Fool’s Day post I did back in 2011 announcing our plans to sell a new EMR software (yes, it’s so old it was EMR, not EHR). I’d loved the response to it in the comments and the individual emails about it. I wasn’t as pleased with the time my pregnant wife told me she was going into labor with our first child as an April Fool’s Day joke. Luckily, it’s all in good fun.

In the Health IT world, no one enjoys April Fool’s Day more than Epic. They always replace their homepage with some April Fool’s Day headlines. You’ll have to check today since it will be gone tomorrow. The sub headlines are “Epic Introduces MyMom Interactive Patient Module” and “Now Hiring Fortnite Support and Dev Staff.” The latter might actually be true, which is what makes for a great April Fool’s day joke. I bet there are a lot of Epic employees who play Fortnite.

While those headlines are good, the main April Fool’s Day headline takes the cake for me, “Epic Hires Jim Cramer as Financial Advisor.” Check out the full announcement:

I love that Epic was willing to do this. It’s perfect humor for those of us who live in the EHR world. For those who need the full context, you can read about Jim Cramer’s suggestion that Apple should acquire Epic.

Jim Cramer replied on Twitter and you can tell he’s a little annoyed by the fact that Judy said she didn’t know who Jim Cramer was when the story came out. I think Jim’s enjoying the fact that Judy knows him now a little too much.

Happy April Fool’s Day!
