Meaningful Use Stage 2 NPRM

Written by:

Yep, that’s the major noise you heard at HIMSS today. The Meaningful Use Stage 2 NPRM sucked the life out of HIMSS today it seems. It was funny seeing many of the major EHR vendors scrambling to get their thoughts on MU stage 2 out. I’m not sure what’s the big rush.

You can also get the meaningful use stage 2 fact sheet on CMS.gov.

I will refrain from any rush to judgment about meaningful use stage 2. It’s not going to be implemented for quite a while, so we have time to digest it properly. I’m sure we’ll cover meaningful use stage 2 a lot more to come in the future.

Until then, I’m ready for my post-HIMSS recovery. Although, both keynotes look pretty interesting tomorrow.

You are so right, John. MU Stage 2 will take a long time to come to fruition. And CMS seems to take into consideration what vendors and physicians have to say.

But with regard to your comment about “sucking the life out of HIMSS”, I think that HIMSS was partly responsible. Their pre-conference website was not too clear on the new schedule. For years the conference was Sunday-Thursday. This year it was Monday-Friday. MANY people booked their flights based on the Sun-Thurs schedule. Many of us left yesterday 2/23/12, and many did not realize the schedule changed. It’s too bad as I am sure there were good sessions yesterday and today. In the end, the vendors may come up short because of this scheduling confusion.

Even so, I enjoyed the conference…good networking!!

      Joan,
You are absolutely correct. The vendor booth down stair felt it particularly bad. Someone told me that it felt like a different conference yesterday. The days change was definitely the reason. HIMSS should have done a bit more to highlight the date change.
