EMR and HIPAA Interviews on XM Radio Station ReachMD

Written by:

When I attended the Practice Fusion Connect conference in San Francisco, I had the opportunity to do a couple interviews for a segment on the XM radio station ReachMD. They’ve posted the segment I did on EMR and meaningful use on their website (Free registration required). In the radio segment I interviewed:
-Camille Williams, practice manager from ENT Associates of South Atlanta in Marietta, Georgia
-Ken Harrington, practice manager from Washington Endocrine Clinic in Washington, DC
-Robert Rowley, MD, chief medical officer of Practice Fusion

It was a fun experience recording something for radio. I learned a bit about radio production and enjoyed interviewing people. If you’re pretty familiar with EMR, meaningful use and healthcare IT, then the segment probably won’t be that interesting to you. However, if you’re just starting to get into EMR, then I think you’ll find some interesting information in the interviews.

Let me know what you think if you listen. Should ReachMD create a healthcare IT and EMR show?

I was very impressed with how professional everyone sounded. No doubt that there was a touch of editing magic, but really a very good job by everyone involved.

John… Nice first time interview. Camille Williams, Camille Williams, Ken Harrington, and Dr. Rowley brought different views of different places and I think it was worthwhile.

There needs to be an open media forum on tough issues like EHR adoption… it would serve the public and clinicians well to hear some ungarbled “even speak”.

Beyond having a compelling place for professionals to visit and learn an awful lot about all aspects of HEIT … your forums attract civil comment … so ReachMD would be well served to have a weekly forum on the topic … might be worthwhile if it were a call in program and your expert guest or you could field those questions. Might change the broader understanding of of the issue by proponents and opponents … which would be a good thing.

Thanks Michael. Definitely a touch of editing magic, but not all that much I don’t think. Mostly just the fluff cut out.

      DonB,
I’m glad to hear you found it worthwhile. I think it would be fun to do a radio show on EMR and EHR. It’s just a question of time I guess. Finding sponsors for it would also be important I think.

I love the idea of a call in question and answer about EMR/EHR. Would be fun to just answer off the cuff like that. I’m not sure if ReachMD does any live shows or not. I think most if not all of them are taped. I believe the one above will be replayed a couple times a day for a week or so.
