EMR Meaningful Use Prediction Poll

We’re getting really close to HHS releasing the interim final rule regarding “meaningful use” of an EMR system. Most of healthcare IT can’t wait for this announcement. Hopefully it comes soon and that it helps to clarify how clinics will be able to receive the EMR stimulus money. In anticipation of the definition of “meaningful use” I’m interested to know people’s perception of what HHS will do with the definition of meaningful use of an EMR. Then, I’ll plan on posting the same poll after the interim final rule is posted as well.

  • John…

My expectation is that reimbursement rules will be confusing and in the end few private practices are going to see reimbursement. I can see real possibility that secondary health care facilities with operational EMRs will have claimed all of the $18 bil long before “Doc Jones’ practice” out in Broken Bow, OK practice even gets his implemented.

  • Hi John,
At the PHAT conference last month everybody was all a-buzz about “the cloud.” Yet speakers seemed to stumble over questions about doctor’s being completely candid on cloud-based charts their patients can not only explore to their hearts content, but possibly edit. When I asked the afternoon panel if this conflict might result in duel-patient-record EHRs; a PHR and an EMR which the doctor has sole control over, one panelist groaned, another from Dossia said the race is on between Cloud and server based, the moderator from Chilimark seemed to think the cloud will win that race and two audience members said it was a good question. We have Microsoft collaborating on such systems with two hospitals and Parctice Fusion has just launched Patient fusion, which seem to be a similar duel patient record EHR. Your readers thoughts would be interesting here.
